Is this the future of solar? The roof tiles are actually made of textured glass. From most viewing angles, they look just like ordinary shingles, but they allow light to pass through from above onto a standard flat solar cell.

With Rennovates old or outdated buildings will be aligned with up-to-date comfort levels. The tenant satisfaction will be higher, the building owner value has increased, and the lifetime of the buildings is stretched. Our claim is to make these buildings ready for another 50 sustainable years.
At the same time, the implementation of Smart Energy solutions will make these buildings energy efficient – up to and beyond Zero Net Energy. That’s why the Rennovates-concepts offers interesting opportunities for different stakeholders.
Rennovates is the project name, started under the Horizon 2020 program from the European Commission. The idea of Rennovates instigated from the fact that – within the EU – there is a large stock of old buildings. These buildings are not energy efficient, are no longer up-to-standard to modern comfort levels and at the end-of-their life cycle.
In 2011 the EU Heads of State and Government called on the European Commission to bring together all of the previous EU’s research and innovation funding under a single common strategic framework.
The Commission launched a wide-ranging consultation involving all key stakeholders which has led to Horizon 2020.
By coupling research and innovation, Horizon 2020 is helping to achieve its goals with emphasis on excellent science, industrial leadership and tackling societal challenges. The goal is to ensure Europe produces world-class science, removes barriers to innovation and makes it easier for the public and private sectors to work together in delivering innovation. Rennovates is a Horizon 2020 project. More on Horizon 2020
